Importance of Yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice and has gained immense popularity here in the west over the last three to four decades. Through controlled breathing and various simple or complex postures, yoga improves flexibility, releases mental and physical tensions and boosts energy.

Starting yoga early provides a practice of lifelong discipline and an array of health benefits. Physically, yoga develops self-awareness through flexibility, strength, and coordination between body and mind.

In their everyday lives children, today are often not very close to nature. They experience different types of stress caused by the demands of numerous activities. They evolve in a world fraught with competition, social media, new technologies and a sense of urgency. Many sensorial stimuli are constantly bombarding their brains which consequently process a heavy load of information without getting enough rest.

Even very early in life, learning to breathe and to center our attention through meditation are excellent ways to empty our mind while at the same time expanding our mental capacity.

Children are master imitators. Children are so flexible and have such a good sense of balance that they can actually get into poses much more easily than adults. Most of them are receptive to yoga. In schools where meditation is taught, teachers have noticed a quantifiable improvement in their students' work and behavior.

Focus and Schedule of the Yoga & Minfulness class

Our yoga curriculum is designed to cover five groupings namely relaxation, meditation, breathing, mudras and yoga postures (standing, sitting and lying poses) that help develop a well-rounded exercise to the mind and body.

Our Yoga class this year starts off by introducing the kids to beginner yoga postures (such as ( Tadagaasana, Vajrasana, Sukhasana etc) and as the year progresses get into intermediate postures (such as Natarajaasana, Baddakonaasana, Siddhaasana etc). Each class schedule starts with the introduction of the importance and benefit of the yoga postures the kids are expected to practice in that session, followed by the actual yogic practice and ends with a set of mindfulness activities that help build self-awareness and awareness of the present surroundings. The mindfulness activities along with the yoga practice helps strengthen kids' minds and orients them to accept life with kindness.

The curriculum for the course is specially designed by Blooming Minds.
