Akshara

Telugu Level 0

Minimum Age: 5 years AND Pre-requisite: None
Sweet sounding rhymes, prayers, songs, introduction of Telugu letters. This level introduces Telugu in a fun way with songs, rhymes, lullabies and letters, similar to the way parents start teaching kids at home.

Telugu Level 1

Minimum Age: 6 years AND Pre-requisite: None
This level stresses reading and writing letters in the entire alphabet. Vowels, consonants, diacritics (gunintaalu) are taught along with extensive vocabulary words to aid speaking. Additionally, our speaking workshops help students easily speak short sentences.

Telugu Level 2

Minimum Age: 7 years AND Pre-requisite: [Successful completion of Akshara Level 1 OR Pass Entrance Test]
First, a review of first level material is covered. Then double letters and compound letters (ottulu) are covered. Much of the common vocabulary including numbers, colors, vegetable names, body parts, weekdays, etc are repeatedly taught so that student memorizes these. Short and simple stories/essays are covered and used as comprehension exercises.

Telugu Level 3

Minimum Age: 8 years AND Pre-requisite: [Successful completion of Akshara Level 2 OR Pass Entrance Test]
Review of Levels 1 and 2, parts of speech, simple grammar with verb tables are covered. Poems from Sumatee and Vemana satakams are taught with meanings explained. More essay/story comprehension is taught in this class. More of the common vocabulary is added in this course.

Telugu Level 4

Minimum Age: 9 years AND Pre-requisite: [Successful completion of Akshara Level 3 OR Pass Entrance Test]
Starting with a review of previous levels, this level goes on to various forms of ‘vibhaktulu’ and their usage. A plethora of vocabulary words are practiced in this class. More of Vemana and Sumatee poems are explained with meanings. Students practice reading interesting essays and stories in the class. Comprehension exercises are practiced.

Telugu Level 5

Minimum Age: 10 years AND Pre-requisite: [Successful completion of Akshara Level 4 OR Pass Entrance Test]
Starting with a review of previous levels, this level adds reading and understanding of essays and stories. Prepares students for speaking and writing own sentences, dialogs and essays. ‘sametalu’, and ‘podupu kathalu’ are also covered with their usage. Slightly advanced poems and essay/story comprehension are introduced in this level. With the aid of our speaking workshops, students should be ready for high school credit exams by the end of this level.

Telugu Level 6

Minimum Age: 11 years AND Pre-requisite: [Successful completion of Akshara Level 5 OR Pass Entrance Test]
Starting with a review of previous levels, this level complex essays and stories. Prepares students for speaking more fluently and writing slightly complex sentences, dialogs and essays. Introductory prosody (chandassu), advanced poems and essay/story comprehension are covered in this level. Students wanting to advance their Telugu knowledge or trying to get college level language credits should consider this level.
